Possible topics (I thought it would be interesting to relate them to my major) drug abuse, drug labs, gangs, teen violence/bullying.
1. http://health.usnews.com/health-news/news/articles/2012/07/26/illegal-bath-salts-mimic-cocaine-in-the-brain-study
The news story is from USNews Health section. The article is discussing the drug known as bath-salts and how through a study on the brain they found that they mimic cocaine. [which I learned from the article/story that they are not talking about the bath salts that you can buy to take a bath in.] These type of bath salts are a combination of synthetic stimulants. I am not sure of the exact date of the study but it was posted on July 26, 2012. The study was done at the University of North Carolina. The reason for the study was to see how these drugs affected the brain. (they used mice for the study)
2. http://douglascountysentinel.com/view/full_story/17103704/article-100-pounds-of-pot-seized-in-I-20-traffic-stop?instance=DShome_news_top
This news story is about the Douglas County Felony Interception Narcotics Detection (FIND) Unit. The news story is explaining that an officer (with the help of his police drug dog) found and seized 100 pounds of pot on a traffic stop on I-20. I have recently seen a lot of similar articles on the FIND unit making similar and at times even larger drug seizures. Every time I go home I see at least three find unit cars along I-20. Douglas County, along with a few other counties, are doing their best to stop the drugs that are coming through the state on I-20 which as become a well known drug route.
3. http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/local/trial-starts-man-accused-stomping-teen-death-party/nRN8m/
This news story is about the trial beginning for a man that was a part of stomping Bobby Tillman to death. Bobby Tillman was a young teen from my home town. He was at a party when a fight broke out. A group of men that were involved decided that the next male they saw, that they would beat them up. Sadly, Bobby Tillman was the next male. Bobby was stomped/beaten so badly that they actually put a hole in his heart. This happened in November 2010. The news story was covering the capital murder trial for one of the men involved in the killing. The murder trial started Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012.

Evaluation Criteria Acronym Blog
Our group came up with the acronym TRAP
(T)-Trustworthy--It is important to use a website/author that you can trust to be a credible source. Someone who knows the subject(s), It needs to be facts not someone's personal opinions.
(R)-References--Can see where an author got there information, as well as to give credit to others work.
(A)-Accurate--we want to be sure that information is correct so we do not state wrong information or inaccurate/potentially outdated information.
(P)-Point of View--When researching and working on projects you want to consider the point of view of the source. It is important that information is unbiased and coming from someone who isn't trying to sway someone's opinions or sell us something. It is important for their point of view to be only strictly stating facts.
Library Ethnography Assignment (and group evaluation)
How do you get help using chat reference?
Project Evaluation
My project partner Kayla Ciliberto and I bounced ideas back and forth the day the ethnography project was assigned. The decision was....Zombie apocalypse!
We scheduled a time to meet up and work on the project. (It was great that I could count count on her to meet up). Before meeting up I think she and I both thought about different ways to show the process of using the chat reference. From there we came up with our question and began chatting. During the process we captured screenshots instead of taking pictures of ourselves so we could show the actual conversation with the librarian. Once our screenshots were captured we moved to creating the powerpoint. [In working together I learned a few tricks on powerpoint --Kayla Ciliberto was far more computer savvy.] Overall I feel like we both contributed to it!

Blog Post #2
Even after being a student here for several years, there are
still a few things about the library space and the services provided that I’m
unsure how to do, and things that are available to students. It was not until
today’s class that I was aware that items such as music, law books, government documents,
laptops, study rooms, VCRs, flip cameras, and even markers were there for
checkout. [Because of the construction I avoided the library due to the noise
for a while.]
There are a few things I’m confused on/do not know how to
do. I’ll be honest; I have yet to check a book out so I suppose that would be
my first question. With that, when we check out a book, how many days before it
needs to be returned? If we have late fees how do we go about paying them off?
Other things I was not aware of until today were that on
most days there are librarians on call to help students in finding books and
even offering help in finding articles on the online database.
I’m hoping that in this class I will also learn how to
search for a book within the library and learn a little more about searching
for articles on Galileo and the other online databases. My hope is that it will help me on my future papers for classes.

About Me :-)
~I’m from Douglasville, Ga.
~Criminology major, Psychology minor
~My hope is that after graduation that I will be able to work in animal cruelty prevention
~I am taking this class to learn about research! That and in my major we do A LOT of research papers so I thought this class would be helpful.
~Something I wish I knew more about…there are many things, but mainly I wish I knew more about why people commit crimes. If we knew why people commit crimes, and or what is going on in their minds, that maybe one day we can understand and prevent. [I am such a criminology nerd!]
~A fun fact about me…people at first think I am quiet and shy, so they are shocked to find out that I love boxing! :-)
